Thirsty Thursday- November 29

Ronnie continues his Thirsty Thursday series, giving his thoughts on three new stouts

We’re smack dab in the middle of the holiday season, folks. December is right around the corner and Christmas will be here in the blink of an eye. It’s also 30 degrees in Atlanta. That’s the perfect combination for my favorite type of beer. STOUTS.

Jekyll brewing makes a lot of great beers this time of year. Major Hortons Export Stout, Coffee Cooter Brown, and Copious Imperial Stout to name a few. Based out of Alpharetta, GA, they aren’t too far from home. This week I tried their Redneck Christmas Imperial Stout. At 8% ABV, and brewed with chocolate, coffee and PEPPERMINT, this brew is perfect for the holidays. Starts with a great tasting stout with a peppermint finish. I plan on having a 6 pack in my fridge on Christmas Day. Rating: 7/10.

Most beers that I try are typically between a 6 to an 8 on the “Good Shit” scale. Some Brew Masters seem to go rogue and try some crazy brews. I’ve tried some awful beers in my day because of that. I may never try anything brewed with Habanero or Jalapeño again. But every now and then, they hit a home run. Stone Brewing did just that with their Xocoveza(SHO-CO-VAY-ZA..I googled it.). Xocoveza is an imperial stout inspired by Mexican hot chocolate. Coming in at 8.1% ABV and brewed with chocolate, coffee, pasilla peppers, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg, this has to be the best stout that I have tasted…EVER. You can taste the coffee, vanilla, cinnamon. You can taste everything. This is my favorite beer right now and I suggest everyone try it. Rating: 10/10

For my final beer, I’ll stick with our theme of stouts and tell you about Dry County Brewing Company’s Old 41 Oatmeal Stout. This brewery has a special place in my heart because I grew up right down the street in Kennesaw, GA and Old 41 is actually a road I have been down many times. I really like this brew. At 5.9%, it is similar to the Red Hare Sticky Stout I mentioned a couple of weeks ago. Very smooth and you can have more than one or two without feeling like shit. If you like sour beers, they also have a Berliner Weisse called Neon Neon. Go try all their beers! Rating: 7/10

Check in next Thursday. I’ll try to review something other than a stout. I’ll also include another bourbon. Cheers.
